twitter chat

A Twitter chat might also be called a Twitter party where an organizer sets a specific time period to all meet online to discuss a predetermined topic with a designated hashtag.  This is a great time to network with other Twitter users with a common interest – all without having to get dressed up or leave your home!

Twitter chats usually last about an hour or two at the most.  The moderator or host will have questions throughout the time period to encourage interaction and engagement.

If you have never participated in a Twitter chat, don’t be nervous.  A great way to get started is just by scanning the tweets and observing what others are saying.  I use Hootsuite to monitor Twitter chats.  I like this because of how you can set up streams to monitor.  I set up a stream for the hashtag being used, my @replies and the key people I want to follow during the Twitter chat.

If you are not sure what to tweet about  a good tip is just RT a few of the other Twitter users if you find the information useful.  Also, don’t use this time to sell people, use it to build relationships and try to stay on topic if you are using the hashtag.  Social Media and Twitter is about building relationships around a common interest.

You might notice I participate in #LifeonFiOS twitter chats at the end of the month.  Feel free to join in the conversation!  Lots of great tech tips from several knowledgeable social media bloggers – #LifeonFiOS twitter list

Disclosure: I am a member of the #LifeOnFiOS Influencer Program. This means every month you’ll see a technology focused post from me. I come up with the topics. I write the words. The thoughts are mine.
