Mayflower Marathon to benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia
106.9 The Fox and FM99 hosted the 15th Annual Mayflower Marathon Food Drive that was held from Friday November 18, 2011 5:30am until Sunday November 20, 2011 3pm at the Pembroke Mall in Virginia Beach.
This was my first time hearing about this event since I have been in the area and it is so amazing to see how well our Hampton Roads Community loves to give back! I decided to take my boys grocery shopping in the morning and tried explaining to them what the Foodbank was and what we were doing. So I let them help pick out some food that they thought would help.
They each got a grocery bag to take to the drop off at Pembroke Mall and were greeted with a group of volunteers ready for all of the food donations! And the boys were even asked to be interviewed on 106.9 about what they donated. What was even more amazing and great to see my boys experience was all the cars that drove in and even a very large motorcycle group all bringing food to the Foodbank.
It is never too young to teach your children the importance of giving back – even if they fully don’t understand what they are doing. I am by no means rich but I do enjoy being able to give back when I can, even if it is only 2 bags of groceries.
