ASK NAOMA – I get asked so many questions on various social media accounts, text and email.  I have received a lot of exposure by doing a weekly social media segment along with my blogging that I do.  Some are just random to very techy questions.  Which smartphone should I get?  How do I set up a Facebook page?  Why doesn’t my social media work?  What events are happening around town to attend?  What non-profit/fundraiser should I support?  What apps do I recommend?  What networking events should I attend?

My goal when setting up this blog several years ago was to use all of these questions that people ask and put into one spot for others who have the same questions.

What do I do?  That is the question I get asked the most!  I am a blogger and social media consultant.

I started blogging in 2006 ( 10 years ago)  as a way to connect with other working mothers.  I was in the mortgage business and needed to get my name out there.  It was a scary moment for me writing my first blog however once I started, I couldn’t stop.  I read and commented on blogs for several months trying to figure out how I would do mine.  I was never a really good writer and was worried how I would be judged online.  My mortgage business grew nationwide within a year of writing!  It was amazing the connections I was making and how much I learned just by putting myself out there.  I wasn’t the only one, and I was self-taught (with the help of YouTube and reading others blogs)

After I was getting successful online real estate offices and agents were contacting me to help them with their online presence. And after much encouragement from my online friends as well as local ones I quit my mortgage career to be a full time social media/blog consultant to mainly my real estate partners.

Then in 2011 after much encouragement from my news friends, I was asked to do a weekly segment on our local news station Social Media Saturday and to share my tips with others.  It has now been transitioned to Hampton Roads Business Weekly Sunday mornings and geared more toward business owners using social media. I am so grateful and couldn’t have even planned this if I tried!

And here I am!  But being a freelance social media consultant isn’t always easy.  I get a lot of comments from people that it must be easy to do social media everyday.  Yes I am very lucky to have a flexible career to work from  home.  I don’t have a lot of expenses and equipment.  All I really need is my laptop and extremely fast internet service ( Verizon FiOS to keep me connected while working multiple projects)  verizon fios

But I spend so many hours helping others I feel like my Ask Naoma blog has been neglected.  It takes focus and time management to work on multiple projects and due dates.

So as part of my focus this year is to bring my blog back to where it was!  I love what I do and I am so grateful to do what I am most passionate about!  I have to really use a lot of time management skills to balance 2 very active boys and a career.

So if you have any tech or social media questions – Make sure to submit them Ask Naoma or on Twitter @AskNaoma

Disclosure: I am a member of the #LifeOnFiOS Influencer Program. This means every month you’ll see a technology focused post from me. I come up with the topics. I write the words. The thoughts are mine.
