I turned 40 years old in April 2017 (5 months ago) and I feel like my life is just beginning.  The way I see it is I still have at least another 40 more years to go!  I have a clarity about who I am and what I deserve in this life. I have a new passion to live a full and happy life!  To be me and never let anyone tell me I am not good enough again!

I received this very nice Casio Privia keyboard as a Christmas gift.

I had played a little here and there when I was in as a kid and in high school but never consistent enough to say I actually played the piano. When I received the keyboard it really sparked my interest to start learning again and doing something just for me.  I remembered a little of reading the music but it has been over 20 years since I sat at a piano.  I started taking piano lessons twice a month starting in February 2017.  It was a little frustrating at first but I kept at it.  And in June I decided I really wanted to learn a classical piece.  My piano teacher at Creative Music & Entertainment challenged me to learn AND memorize a piece by the end of August when the first Talent Show would be.  I didn’t agree to it at first.  I never really thought I would ever be good enough to play for anyone else.  And it was kind of intimidating to start that at my age.  But things changed and a month later I agreed.  I was going to learn to play Pachelbels Canon in D and memorize it by the first Talent Show August 26, 2017.

Since I have started playing and sharing I have had so many people tell me they always wanted to learn or that they did when they were younger but like me just stopped because life got in the way.  I am 40 years old and have just really started learning to play and enjoying it just for me!

What is stopping from pursuing what you want?  It is never too late!  I practice more now than I did when I actually had the time as a kid because now I am doing it for me and I LOVE it.  To me playing the piano is a lot more satisfying as an adult.

I love taking lessons from Creative Music & Entertainment because I bring the songs I want to learn.  They really do cater to your style and what your musical goals are.  Yes, I learned a song in only a few months with their guidance but I practiced a lot!

Of course I get frustrated with my practice and that I can’t just start playing Chopin just because I have a nice keyboard and pay for private piano lessons.  But for me the joy and fun is in the learning.  Right now, I am enjoying the process of learning and accomplishing playing one line at a time.  And now that I have finished and memorized a full piece I am in shock still at listening to me play.  I can’t believe it is me!  I have had some quiet moments when I have played when I even got a little emotional of completing this song.

So no matter how slow or fast you are learning to play, I say GO FOR IT!  I hate hearing adults say “I wish I could”  Because all I have to say to you is “why not?”

Challenges are what makes life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.

So I say, shock everyone but the most important thing of all make yourself very very proud! Now watch this #KoreanGirl grow and follow her dreams!  Be the best you and always believe in yourself!
